In the tzotzil language of the Chiapas Highlands, Lok'tavanej means "image maker". José Ángel Rodríguez is called after this name by the dozens of indigenous communities he has visited during his career as a documentary photographer, portraying the day-to-day activities, culture, and often the social tragedies that Mexico’s indigenous peoples have historically suffered. An intimate portrait of once Manuel Álvarez Bravo’s pupil, this short film strolls through the life of this prominent Mexican photographer to showcase part of his documentary work, and reflect his perspectives on the photographic art.
